The curls have it! Jennifer Hudson unveils stunning new hairdo at Bahamas gala honoring acting legend Sidney Poitier

She normally wears her long her straight, but Jennifer Hudson decided to change things up, at least for one night.

The singer and actress unveiled a stunning new curly look on Saturday night at a gala in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The 31-year-old was a complete knockout with her hair styled in a pompadour look with tight curls on top, and a long ponytail in back.

All eyes turned to the superstar as she strutted in front of the cameras at the Atlantis resort, wearing a lovely white lace minidress.

She completed the look with smokey eyes and wore high heeled black booties.

The Grammy-winning singer wowed the crowd by performing her hit single Spotlight, and later a medley of her idol Whitney Houston's hits.

Jennifer and several Hollywood heavy hitters traveled to the Bahamas, including Oprah Winfrey, as the island nation marks its 40th year of independence.

Once a British Colony, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas became fully independent in 1973.

The gala honoring Poitier, an American-Bahamian actor, was part of the week-long festivities.

Born in Miami to Bahamian parents, the 85-year-old grew up to become a Hollywood legend.

In 1963, Poitier became the first black person to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Lilies of the Field.

He has also won a BAFTA Film Award, three Golden Globes, a U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Honorary Oscar.
